Turkish (Türkçe) is a Turkic language of the Oghuz branch, spoken by around 85 million people. It is the official language of Turkey and Northern Cyprus and is widely used by large communities in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, and across the diaspora. Turkish is well known for its vowel harmony and agglutinative grammar, where suffixes stack onto root words to build meaning.

Modern Turkish uses a 29-letter Latin alphabet, adopted in 1928 as part of Atatürk's reforms to replace the Ottoman Turkish (Arabic) script. It includes six letters not found in English — Ç, Ğ, I/ı, İ/i, Ö, Ş, Ü — and omits Q, W, and X. Its most distinctive feature is the pair of i letters: the dotted İ/i and the dotless I/ı are separate letters with different sounds, which is exactly why a proper Turkish keyboard matters for correct spelling.
