Chinese Keyboard Online – Free Pinyin Input Method (中文键盘)

An online Chinese keyboard (中文键盘) is a virtual keyboard that lets you type Chinese characters using your regular keyboard. Pinyin input works by typing the romanized pronunciation of Chinese words (e.g., 'nihao' for 你好), and a full desktop IME then suggests matching Chinese characters to choose from. This keyboard covers the first half: it buffers your Pinyin and commits it on Space, and does not select characters for you.

When you type a Pinyin syllable, multiple Chinese characters may share the same pronunciation (homophones are very common in Chinese). Not on this keyboard. The composition panel shows the Pinyin you have typed and commits it on Space; it does not offer characters to choose between, because ranking homophones needs a frequency dictionary this keyboard does not carry. To write the characters themselves, type your Pinyin here and paste it into a full IME.

Mandarin Chinese has four tones (plus a neutral tone): first tone (ā, high and flat), second tone (á, rising), third tone (ǎ, dipping), fourth tone (à, falling). In most Pinyin input, you don't need to type tones – the system uses context and frequency to suggest characters. Tone numbers are worth typing here anyway: 'ma1' stays 'ma1' in the buffer, which keeps the reading unambiguous for whoever reads it next.
