FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Alt codes work for these letters?

Windows Alt codes for caron letters are inconsistent. Use Unicode/copy-paste or the online Czech keyboard for reliable input.

How do I type them quickly?

Open the Czech keyboard online and type with your physical keyboard; or copy from this table and paste anywhere.

Can I copy characters directly?

Yes—click Copy in the table and paste anywhere. No installation needed.

Do these work with the online keyboard?

Yes. Open the Czech keyboard online and type or paste them directly. Everything runs in your browser.

What's the difference between Czech and Slovak special characters?

They share most letters (č, š, ž, ť, ď, ň), but each has its own. Czech uses ř (r with háček) and ů (u with ring), while Slovak adds ľ, ĺ, ŕ, ä and the long ô. This cheatsheet covers both sets.

What are the háček and čárka marks?

The háček (ˇ) is the little check above letters like č, š, ž and softens the sound. The čárka (´) is an acute accent that lengthens a vowel (á, é, í, ó, ú). Slovak also uses the ring (˚) in ů-style letters.

Why don't the Alt codes work on my laptop?

Alt codes require a numeric keypad with Num Lock on, which most laptops lack. Use the copy buttons above instead — they work on any device with no numpad needed.

How do I type Czech and Slovak letters on a phone?

Press and hold the base letter on your phone's on-screen keyboard to reveal accented variants (hold c for č, s for š, z for ž). Or copy any character from the table above and paste it into your app.
