Nepali is spoken by around 32 million people, primarily in Nepal and parts of India. It uses the Devanagari script – the same writing system as Hindi, but with its own vocabulary and grammar.
If you don't have a Nepali keyboard layout installed, here's the easiest way to type Nepali online.
Nepali and Devanagari
Nepali uses the Devanagari script with characters like क, ख, ग, घ. If you already know Hindi Devanagari, the script will look familiar. The character set includes:
- Vowels: अ आ इ ई उ ऊ ए ऐ ओ औ
- Consonants: क ख ग घ ङ च छ ज झ ञ ट ठ ड ढ ण त थ द ध न प फ ब भ म
- Semi-vowels and sibilants: य र ल व श ष स ह
Conjunct characters (ligatures) are formed when consonants combine without a vowel between them, like क्ष or त्र.
