Thai is a tonal language with complex character placement – vowels can appear above, below, before, or after consonants. The virtual keyboard handles all of this correctly.

Thai text is stored in the order you see it, not the order you say it. Five vowels are written before the consonant they are pronounced after – เ, แ, โ, ใ and ไ – and you type them first. To write ไม่ ("not"), press ไ, then ม, then the tone mark ่. To write แม่ ("mother"), press แ, then ม, then ่.

Everything else comes after the consonant. Vowels above or below it (ิ ี ึ ื ุ ู ั ็) come next, then the tone mark (่ ้ ๊ ๋), which sits on top. In เด็ก ("child") that is เ, ด, ็, ก: the leading vowel, the consonant, the short-vowel mark above it, then the final consonant.

Thai also leaves no spaces between words. A space marks the end of a phrase or sentence, so don't add one after every word.

On a physical keyboard, the standard Kedmanee layout puts the characters for these words on the following keys: - สวัสดี (hello): L ; Y L F U - ขอบคุณ (thank you): - V [ 8 6 Shift+I - ไม่ (not): W , J - ไทย (Thai): W M P - ๆ (repeat the previous word): Q, and the Thai zero ๐ is Shift+Q
